Which one should you choose?
Our advice is:
- If you have a preference for a vendor between Google and Microsoft, choose that vendor. For example, if you use GMail use Google or if you have an Outlook.com email, use Microsoft.
- If you don't have a preference, use the Google authenticator which we've used and recommended for years.
- If you'd prefer neither of the big tech vendors, authy is an independent piece of software owned and run by Twilio
We will use screenshots of the Google authenticator app for the rest of this document. They all look very similar and have similar functionality.
Open your Authenticator App
Open the authenticator app you've chosen.
In Google Authenticator click the plus button down the bottom right that looks like this
A little menu will appear. Click Scan a QR Code
You will see a camera appear now. Point the camera towards your screen where the QR Code is being displayed.
Scan the QR Code on screen
The QR code is the square shaped barcode which is on Step 2. It has a black and white pattern.
Once the camera finds the QR Code, it should automatically bring you back to the starting page. You should now see a new entry in Google Authenticator for ContractHound that looks something like this
What do these numbers mean on the Authenticator app?
The 6 digit token code is on the left hand side. This token will change every 30 seconds.
The timer is on the left hand side showing you how much time you have left before it changes.
Completing your MFA setup
The last step to completing setting up Multi-Factor authentication on your account is to enter your 6 digit token code and click the Complete MFA Setup button.
Make sure to click the button before the token code changes on your device.
If your token code starts changing red, it is best to wait for a new token to generate.
Once you enter your token correctly you should see a message pop-up Multi-Factor authenticatio has been enabled successfully.
You will also see that the page has now changed and says your MFA is setup correctly.
